Bob and Vikki Dimattia operate Pura Vida Tropicals Nursery, a Limited Liability Corporation, on one acre in Vista, California. The nursery is lovingly run by the family and kept to a manageable, hands-on scale, which accounts for the high quality of plants offered for sale and the high level of customer service offered to those who enter our gates. We operate on an appointment-only basis so that we may best serve our clients – offering advice and plant choices specific to each customer’s needs.

Bob started his nursery career first as an avid gardener and a hobbyist and collector of bamboo in 1977. He knew bamboo was a foundation of life for many cultures in other parts of the world, but when the local Asian community approached him and asked to be allowed to harvest bamboo shoots for their dinner table he realized that bamboo was a plant whose value extended to ALL parts of the world. This inspired him to further devote himself to learning about bamboo and he found that what he once considered just a beautiful, useful plant was so much more than that. He subsequently became active in the American Bamboo Society, Southern California Chapter. He has been honored for his services with a Lifetime Membership.

Bob’s experience has grown over the past 40 years to include an expert knowledge that includes palms and miscellaneous exotics. Pura Vida Tropicals is home to many species of bamboo, palms, ginger, anthuriums, fruiting trees and other exotic tropicals.

A visit to Pura Vida Tropicals is a delight. Walking through paths lined with rare and beautiful palms, bamboos and exotics is an awesome experience. Bamboo is also on display as fencing and structures.
